We visited One Golden Square 12 months after Absolute Radio went live with their VoIP.co.uk SIP trunk. This video shows what they have to say.


The Challenge:

Absolute radio broadcast on more platforms than any other UK radio station. They are the biggest commercial radio podcaster with over 4.3 million downloads in the past 12 months, Absolute Radio hold regular live music sessions from their head office site at One Golden Square London and broadcast from many well known live music festivals throughout the year.

In 2008 the company had a requirement to replace their PBX system as part of a restructuring exercise.

The Recommendation:

Having reviewed the market, Absolute Radio selected Comtec Enterprises, a dynamic systems integrator and VoIP.co.uk partner, to advise them on which telephone system would be suitable for use over the next five years.

It was obvious to Comtec’s Andy Holland that a Cisco solution would be the most cost efficient brand; “The customers had a significant investment made already in a number of Cisco handsets and we recognised there was a further ongoing cost saving to be made by replacing their ISDN30 circuits with a VoIP.co.uk SIP trunk”.

Embracing SIP:

As the telephone system is so important to the daily operations at One Golden Square there were engineers from both Comtec Enterprises and VoIP.co.uk on-site during the weekend migration to ensure a seamless handover.

Comtec’s Andy Holland recalls that “because of the work that VoIP.co.uk had done in porting the numbers across and working with us on configuration of the system the users came in on the Monday morning and they really had no idea anything had changed”. There was even time for the VoIP.co.uk engineers to advise Absolute Radio on the best way to stream their live on-air feed to the Cisco Call Manager Express router for use as music on hold.
